The ceramic objects in this collection are primarily from Kashan, Iran; however, the origin of some of the objects cannot be identified. Kashan is well known for its ornate art including tiles, silks, fabrics, vessels, carpets, and architecture. However, Kashan ceramic lusterware pieces are particularly renowned.
The pieces displayed can be dated back to the 12th-14th century CE and demonstrate a wide variety of artistic techniques. In addition to the ornate calligraphic script, these objects showcase images of people, animals and mystical beasts that capture the viewer’s imagination, transporting them to a time long ago in Iran.
