Ntozake Shange
Ntozake Shange’s work “for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf” is a choreopoem which explores and represents varying levels of black intimacy; its complications, sorrows, and pure joys. In this way, she grapples with the prevalent challenges of the black community (especially within girlhood), as well as the powerful connections and supports among black women. The work shows that together, the black femme personal can combine and uplift; and that is highly political.
