{"id":133,"date":"2021-05-05T13:48:32","date_gmt":"2021-05-05T17:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/angela-calomiris\/?p=133"},"modified":"2021-05-19T22:30:42","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T02:30:42","slug":"marta-robinet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/angela-calomiris\/2021\/05\/05\/marta-robinet\/","title":{"rendered":"Marta Robinet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Around the time of her trial and after, Calomiris was in a romantic relationship with the sister-in-law of her FBI handler, Marta Robinet.<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-133-1' id='fnref-133-1' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(133)'>1<\/a><\/sup> As mentioned in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/angela-calomiris\/2021\/05\/06\/red-masquerade\/\">last section<\/a>, Calomiris was involved with Robinet when she published the book, <em>Red Masquerade.<\/em>\u00a0Robinet likely influenced the written work as a journalist herself.<\/p>\n<p>After Calomiris&#8217; testimony in the Smith Act Trials, the couple travelled around Europe together. Eventually, they returned to the United States and bought a house in Wilton, Connecticut.<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-133-2' id='fnref-133-2' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(133)'>2<\/a><\/sup> They separated by the mid 1950s.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear the extent to which Robinet influenced Calomiris at the time of their relationship and after.
