She is primarily interested in the study of culture-contact and how mortuary and skeletal data can provide insights into interactions between different populations in the past. Since 2000, Prof. Buzon has been co-directing an <a href=\"https:\/\/tombos.org\/team-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">international, interdisciplinary research team<\/a> at the site of Tombos and most of her work on health and identity has focused on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishmuseum.org\/collection\/galleries\/egyptian-sculpture#timeline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Kingdom and Napatan periods<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is Professor Buzon a <a href=\"https:\/\/trowelblazers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TrowelBlazer<\/a>?! <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Tombos Archaeological Project <\/strong>has been actively engaged in community outreach and collaboration&#8211; here are <a href=\"https:\/\/tombos.org\/educational-posters-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">some examples of local posters<\/a> developed by the project&#8211; and in pursuing <a href=\"https:\/\/brill.com\/downloadpdf\/view\/journals\/jaa\/aop\/article-10.1163-21915784-bja10034\/article-10.1163-21915784-bja10034.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explicitly decolonial<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/egyptianexpedition.org\/articles\/countering-the-racist-scholarship-of-morphological-research-in-nubia-centering-the-people-in-the-past-and-present\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anti-racist <\/a>research questions. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These local and national initiatives are highlighted on the <a href=\"https:\/\/tombos.org\/conversations-with-local-people-in-tombos-by-tomomi-fushiya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tombos Blog<\/a> and in Buzon&#8217;s 2022 <em>Sapiens<\/em> article, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sapiens.org\/biology\/reinterpreting-life-and-death-in-ancient-nubia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reinterpreting Life and Death in Ancient Nubia<\/a>. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She has also presented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?app=desktop&amp;v=K5YGTbEPqbA\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?app=desktop&amp;v=K5YGTbEPqbA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public-facing webinars <\/a>of her research for the Islamic Medical Association of North America and other interested organizations. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prof. Buzon is committed to &#8220;changing institutional infrastructure&#8221; and &#8220;rededicating archaeological practice to collective learning and capacity building<sup data-fn=\"6c5d842d-5d77-47d1-ab89-ea01b8c4d25e\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#6c5d842d-5d77-47d1-ab89-ea01b8c4d25e\" id=\"6c5d842d-5d77-47d1-ab89-ea01b8c4d25e-link\">1<\/a><\/sup>&#8221;
