\n<\/b>The Oresman Gallery Artist Lecture Series is<\/em>\u00a0co-sponsored by Smith Office for the Arts and the Department of Art.<\/em>
\n<\/b><\/p>\n
Documenting Border Barriers<\/em> addresses the exponential rise in the building of fences and walls between nations and territories to keep people out. It is a growing compendium of etchings and texts that portray anti-migration border walls and is displayed as a wall installation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As the number of people on the move has risen in recent years, so has the building of physical barriers. Wall-building and the tightening of immigration regulations have escalated on the borders of Europe, the USA-Mexico border, in the Middle East\/Western Asia, and on numerous borders worldwide. People fleeing war and economic and environmental crises are met with fences, walls, and violence. Since 2000, the number of physical border barriers in the world has risen from about 15 to more than 70.<\/span><\/p>\n Pamela Dodds<\/b> (b. 1956, Halifax, Canada) explores the complexities and nuances of interpersonal relationships, and the reflection of these narratives in communities and societies. She works in printmaking, painting and drawing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Her work is exhibited in North America and Europe, and has been supported by grants from the Gottlieb Foundation, Ontario Arts Council and Canada Council for the Arts. Collectors include Cleveland Museum of Art, USA, Krakow Print Society, Poland, and McMaster Museum of Art, Canada. <\/span>Documenting Border Barriers<\/span><\/i>, was exhibited at University of Quebec in Montreal (2022); at the Museum of Art, Nogales, Mexico (2023) just steps south of the Border Wall; and in the Bolzano, Italy in the border region of South Tyrol (2025-2026). The work has received awards at international printmaking bi\/triennials in Brussels, Belgium, and Krakow, Poland. Dodds engages with the borders and migration community of scholars, journalists, and people with lived experiences, presenting this work as a panelist at international university conferences in USA, Canada, and Morocco.
