Returning After My Three Year Absence
I, like many others, have unexpectedly found myself back at my childhood home in New Hampshire, a place that can be anywhere from strange to comforting to difficult. Most times, but in springtime especially and in New Hampshire especially any given day could be any day. It could be the day I lived in this place 5 years ago or 10 years ago or it could be today. I keep a meticulous photo record so that when today feels like April 30th in 2014 and April 30th in 2016 and April 30th in 2020 all at once I can reference my photos from these exact dates and disprove this melding to myself. Confused timelines and memories drag me across the past few years so that when I am in my childhood home I am living in several different eras all at once. In this series I lean into this strangeness and seek to approach creating photos with the knowledge that I may not be able to prove this, only document each moment as it is and allow room for the fact that ultimately it may be a moment that exists across time. I revisit memories and places again and again in these photos in an attempt to understand and acknowledge this compression of time.
