Dear Miss Cutler,<\/span><\/p>\n Even the most enthusiastic accounts of Juniper Lodge by Miss Anneta and Miss Gifford Clarke failed to prepare me for such a lovely home. I wish to thank you again for inviting me to come this summer for it is a rare privilege to be here. The girls who are here have a very fine spirit and form an harmonious household. Yesterday we were all invited to tea at the home of Mrs. Bowditch. Perhaps I should say Madame Bowditch, as there are so many families of this name here. Members of these other families were invited too. I am sure that you would have felt that the group from Juniper Lodge was well fitted to represent Smith College. Miss Brown, who is majoring in Ethnography at Yale had a most interesting conversation with one of the guests, Mrs. Balch. I believe this is the correct spelling of her name. Mrs. Balch and her sister read Sagas together during the summer, and Miss Brown was able to give her some references which she had long desired. We all enjoyed the \u201ctea.\u201d Four of us, led by Miss Upton, walked up Mt. Paugus on Monday. It was an all day trip and the day was well chosen. It was an easy peak on which to practice climbing, and there were lovely views at many, many places; so we were repaid for our efforts. Everyone was in excellent spirits so the whole day was thoroughly enjoyed. Even the wasp stings which two of us received were perfect. As Margaret Upton gave us first aid treatment at the next spring, she remarked: \u201cI never thought I should be plastering mud on the back of one of the Smith faculty.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ruth Eiseman and her mother called yesterday with Mr. Dodd. Mrs. Dodd had already called and we have invited her to bring Mrs. Bernard while the latter is visiting her. Everyone who comes is very enthusiastic and all are glad that Smith College has such a beautiful place. Ruse Easieman is a junior. Her mother is an Alumna and I believe Mrs. Dodd is also. Margaret Wells and her sister have just arrived with two other Alumnae. Betty Cavins is entertaining them until it is time for luncheon. They brought their lunch with them and Miss Preston plans to have coffee in the living room after dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n It is a fine thing that there is such interest shown. I hope those who come will interest others so that your work, as Chairman of the Juniper Lodge Committee, may be lightened.<\/span><\/p>\n I understand that you will be here for the New Hampshire Smith Club meeting. I\u2019m looking forward to having you here.
