The boy

A page of poetry by Emily Dickinson with text blacked out to form a blackout poem. At the top "THE BOY" is handwritten. On the left and right margins are black-and-white photos of a young boy.

THE BOY

how he suffered
if any were near
who could trust
Paradise.

he was patient
dying
Was pleasant

his home, or God,
Or say
human nature

had he any?
Just his sigh
Had been
confident

And if he was
first,
What broke?

Was he afraid?
Might
consciousness grow,
and love
Meet Eternity?
