Etiquette for the Smoker

smoker,
Most of us do
Lighted cigarettes
A roaring
started on a hot July day

CIGARETTES AT TABLE
smoking at a really formal dinner
but today cigarettes are passed at the end of the salad course

It is true that there are numberless women who light their own cigarettes
some of them even greet their hostess
cigarette in hand
young Mrs. Inconsiderate lights her cigarette
from beneath an ascending veil of smoke,
feel free to follow her example. And to stop this
practice there is really nothing that the conservative hostess can do

NEVER LIGHT YOUR OWN CIGARETTE AT A TABLE WITHOUT ACCESSORIES
Whether it is proper to smoke at table depends upon the setting
or the places. If each place is set with cigarettes, a lighter and an ashtray
But in the houses of those who do not put them on the table
smoke throughout the meal

Be careful too that the smoke from the cigarette you are holding, or have laid down, is not finding its way into someone’s face

INEXCUSABLE UNTIDINESS
you can look around for something that is obviously an ashtray,
to find it, ask your hostess.
