but today cigarettes are passed at the end of the salad course

It is true that there are numberless women who light their own cigarettes
some of them even greet their hostess
cigarette in hand
young Mrs. Inconsiderate lights her cigarette
from beneath an ascending veil of smoke,
feel free to follow her example. And to stop this
practice there is really nothing that the conservative hostess can do

NEVER LIGHT YOUR OWN CIGARETTE AT A TABLE WITHOUT ACCESSORIES
