Pieces of paper featuring ornate patterns are attached to the corners of the page.\" width=\"659\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>By D.C.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FOR HIM I SING<\/p>\n<p>FOR him I sing,<br \/>\nI raise the present on the past, shells of nebulae \/ shed by a supernova<br \/>\n(As some perennial tree out of its roots, the present on the past,)<br \/>\nWith time and space I him dilate and fuse the immortal laws,<br \/>\nTo make himself by them the law unto himself.<\/p>\n<p>WHEN I READ THE BOOK<\/p>\n<p>WHEN I read the book, the biography famous,<br \/>\nAnd is this then (said I) what the author calls a man&#8217;s life?<br \/>\nAnd so will some one when I am dead and gone write my life?<br \/>\n(As if any man really knew aught of my life,<br \/>\nWhy even I myself I often think know little or nothing of my real life,<br \/>\nOnly a few hints, a few diffused faint clews and infirections<br \/>\nI seek for my own use to trace out here.) I thought we might sing<br \/>\nOf the wire wound round the wound of feeling.<\/p>\n<p>in the shattered absence of an unraveling cosmos<\/p>\n<p>BEGINNING MY STUDIES<\/p>\n<p>BEGINNING my studies the first step pleas&#8217;d me so much,<br \/>\nThe mere fact consciousness, these forms, the power of motion,<\/p>\n<p>mushroom spore\/<br \/>\ndandelion seed<\/p>\n<p>The least insect or animal, the senses, eyesight, love,<br \/>\nThe first step I say awed me and pleas&#8217;d me so much,<br \/>\nI have hardly gone and hardly wish&#8217;d to go any farther,<br \/>\nBut stop and loiter all the time to sing it in ecstatic songs,<br \/>\nWith the water a deep dark blue, an almost<br \/>\nIndigo we paled from the well before sail.\u00a0 BEGINNERS<\/p>\n<p>How they are provided for upon the earth, (appearing at intervals,)<br \/>\nHow dear and dreadful they are to the earth,<br \/>\nHow they inure to themselves as much as to any \u2014 what a paradox<br \/>\nappears their age, small particles, tiny bits of debris.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By D.C.
