Welcome to the Story Stroll!
Hosted in collaboration with Forbes Library – Summer Reading
Story Strolls provide a fun and interactive way to enjoy books and appreciate the beauty of Smith’s botanic gardens, which extend throughout the entire campus, when they are most alive with nature in the summer months.
This summer we’ll be exploring two different books:
The Last Tree/ El último árbol – María Quintana Silva, illustrated by Silvia Álvarez
The Last Tree/El último árbol will take you through the Systematics Garden as you learn all about the beauty and importance of trees. This bilingual story stroll has two start points. The English start point can be found next to the Lyman plant house entrance to the Systematics Garden, and the Spanish start point can be found by the the Rock Garden entrance closest to Nelson library.
Run Dates: June 20th – Aug 4th
All material for The Last Tree/El último árbol is available in both English and Spanish.
Translation of interactive materials courtesy of Olivia Sarno (’25) and Malika Gottfried (’25).
Tomatoes for Neela – Padma Lakshmi, illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal
Tomatoes for Neela will bring you through Capen Garden, and you might even find a ripe tomato in the beds to munch on as you go!
Run Dates: Aug 4th – Sept 5th

At both locations, there are interactive pamphlets for you to follow along with as you move through the garden. For more reading activities, check out Summer Reading 2023: Find Your Voice!
