石布林 Proposal

大纲 Proposal guidelines – answer the questions on your own Google doc and submit them in the podcast folder (text in blue is Chen laoshi’s example)

  1. What is it you want to talk about? (It can be an object, a piece of music, a story, a family tradition, etc.)

I would like to share the story of my family’s extraordinary Thanksgiving tradition.

  1. What is the story behind it?

I am not quite sure the specifics on how this tradition got started, but in the ‘80s my great grandparents (my grandpa’s parents) began inviting many friends and family to their Thanksgiving party. I think most people on Thanksgiving just eat food with their family and watch football, but my family is very unique. We have a talent show, relay races, a golf tournament, a game night, and a group outing all over the span of three days. I was not yet born when this tradition still took place at my great grandparents’ house.

  1. What does it say about you, your family, or the associated people?

My family are such giving people. Growing up in the Great Depression and World War II, my great grandparents’ childhood was wrought with hardships and hunger, and they became part of the “Greatest Generation.” Now, they would give everything that they could to the people they love, because to them, that is what truly matters.

  1. How are you going to present this story? How are you going to engage the listeners throughout the podcast?
  1. I will call the common trait of all families across the globe: “Wherever you come from, we all have traditions that bring us together with our family. For the Stevens, that is the yearly Thanksgiving party!”
  2. Then, I plan to describe what exactly happens at this party to make it so special: Games (Stevens on the farm, Fishing for prizes, Cheese Puff Toss, etc.), our Talent Show, two golf tournaments, Game Night, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and more! The sheer quantity of people and length of time are also important factors in this unique experience.
  3. Then I will discuss how this tradition actually got started.
  4. Then I will touch on the challenges presented in recent years to our celebration of these festivities (Covid, my grandpa’s health), and how even so, the people who come have stuck with our family through thick and through thin.
  1. Do you plan to interview other people? *(check the requirements of interviews below)

I will interview my grandparents to ask her how the tradition first began.

  1. Prepare a few images to post along with your proposal on the WordPress site.
