In my podcast, I talk about one of my favorite childhood singers named Selena Quintanilla, who is a Mexican-American singer that unfortunately passed away years before I was born. Though she died long before I was born, I still grew up listening to her music as if she was still alive and continuously releasing music. This is because her impact on many Mexican and Mexican American people is so deep. Her music is especially important to me because it’s something my mom, grandma and I all have in common, which is a rarity given that we had drastically different upbringings. Sometimes it is hard for me to understand where my mom is coming from, and vice versa, therefore I cherish the times we can just forget our differences and just listen to Selena’s music together.

Selena是在德州出生、长大的，可是她的父母来自墨西哥。Selena跟她的家人一起组成了一个叫”Selena and the Dinos”的乐队。后来，Selena的音乐开始在墨西哥和美国人之间变得很吃得开。她甚至赢了一个格莱美奖。可是 令人感叹的是，在1995年，Selena的事业到达巅峰的时候，一个Selena的歌迷谋杀了她。

我长大的时候，我常常听Selena的音乐。虽然Selena在1995年去世，而我在2001年出生，可是很多和我一样在2000年代出生的人还会听Selena的音乐。我妈妈一向喜欢听Selena的音乐。我外婆第一次来美国旅行的时候，我跟她一起唱Selena的歌。每次我跟我妈妈和外婆一起唱Selena的歌，我都感觉与她们非常亲近。

现在，我听Selena的音乐的时候，我开始想念我妈妈和外婆。我的童年和我妈妈的童年不一样，我是在美国长大的，我妈妈和外婆则是在墨西哥长大的，我们不同的成长经历让我们有不同的想法。虽然我们的思考方式非常不同，但是我们有一个共同点，那就是我们都喜欢听Selena的音乐，所以我把Selena的音乐看成我的文化的一部分。还有，我认为我的背景和Selena的背景一样，我们都是在美国出生的，可是我们的父母来自墨西哥。在我的童年，我没有见过很多和我背景一样的人，因此我觉得Selena的音乐反应我的身份认同。
