With a reading by the author<\/p>\n

The world is quiet now.
\nit is quiet all the time now. But you know
\nthat everyone is in doors
\ntrying to find something, to uncover
\nsomething. Everyone is in doors
\nweeping and cooking and yelling
\nat the TV. Everyone is in doors,
\nstudying and working or
\nworrying about studying or
\nworrying about working. Everyone
\nis indoors checking Facebook.
\nwondering–
\nam I alone?
\nwhat is everyone else doing?<\/p>\n

Everyone is in doors hugging,
\nkissing, loving their mothers and fathers,
\ntheir parents, their sisters, their grandmothers.
\neveryone is in doors scared and
\nlooking down, pacing and lashing.
\nhating and wondering,
\nwondering,
\nwondering.
\nam I alone?
\nEveryone is in doors.
\nin doors
\nin their doors.
\nstanding on their first step.
\non the brink of walking out into
\nthe world.
\nsome holding cigarettes
\nsome notebooks
\npaint brushes
\npencils
\nflowers
\nmasks
\nnothing – just staring into space.<\/p>\n

And some people are out doors
\nthey are working
\nand we are clapping
\ncheering
\nRoaring
\nfor them in this house-
\napartment-thing
\non hicks street.
\nwe are opening the window
\nour heads staring out like
\nthis is the first time we have
\nfelt the light in days.
\nand my dog is barking and
\nmy dad is clapping in the
\nkitchen with cauliflower in his
\nhands and my mom is
\nclapping, clap, clapping away in
\nher green shirt.<\/p>\n

And we are all in doors
\nscreaming
\nsaying, \u201cthank you\u201d
\nsaying, \u201cI see you\u201d
\nsaying \u201cwe are here\u201d
\nsaying \u201cyou are not alone\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
