Mercy, it turns out, is the older sibling
\nsitting down to play legos
\nwith the young one
\non the eleventh day of quarantine.
\nIt is going outside to sled together,
\nthough the snow is melting
\nfast beneath you, sluicing
\ninto the drain at the bottom of the hill,
\nbut you are still allowed this
\nhill, this slide beneath fir trees,
\nand so you take the ride
\nagain and again, though
\nit sends you backward
\nand sideways, though you
\nhave no idea what comes next,
\nwhen your child says, Can we
\ndo it again? It turns out mercy
\nis you saying, Yes.<\/p>\n
