COVID-19 walk
Colleen Keenan is the Associate Director for Client Systems in Smith’s Office of Information Technology Services. A lifelong resident of Northampton, she is a mom, musician, runner, and photographer.
In her life as a musician, Colleen used to play First Night in Northampton along with other gigs at the BayState Hotel when that was still around! She was also in a disco band called “Check Please.”
As a photographer, Colleen has been drawn to digital photography since the invention of the digital camera. She has been “a bit” obsessed with capturing moments in time with photos. When the iPhone came along with it’s high quality camera, her ability to fulfill this passion became infinitely easier, with her camera now at the tip of her fingers at all times.
Photography, for Colleen, is about preserving a moment in time so that she can return to it in future years. It’s also about bringing joy to her family and friends. Colleen aims to capture happiness and the beauty that Mother Nature provides. She often uses photos as gifts and she’s used her IT knowledge and skills to set many family members up with digital frames that she adds photos to throughout the year.
Colleen also likes to snap a shot whenever she’s out on a trail run to remind others of what’s out there, so that, hopefully, they will remember that sense of joy they had as a child exploring in the woods!
Colleen submitted this photograph of pastured animals taken in Southampton, MA on a lunchtime walk during the Covid-19 quarantine. She was inspired to take this picture by way the sunlight was playing in the field and on the water. Colleen tries to get her kids out of the house every day at lunchtime to visit these peaceful areas of town. As a member of the Staff Arts Showcase working group, she wanted to add something to the Showcase in the hopes of inspiring others to submit their own art.
