The Spirits of Life Wrap

Deborah Day is the STEAM Outreach coordinator at the Jandon Center for Community Engagement at Smith College and chair of the Western Mass science and engineering fair.

In addition to her love for science, Deborah enjoys many types of creative projects including fibre arts, especially crochet. She also enjoys nature and is inspired to use the colors of nature in most of her projects.

In seeking balance, Deborah trains for and competes in endurance events like marathons and triathlons.  She has completed twenty marathons, three IRONMAN full distance (140.6 mile) events and four IRONMAN half distance (70.3 mile) events.  She and her husband, Carl, also a triathlete, enjoy running and biking the country roads of Western Mass.

Deborah has two twenty-something sons who both live in Connecticut. She loves spending time with them whenever possible. She also has a pet cat named Hazel who has a lot of toritude!

Deborah is currently working on a crochet project titled “The Spirits of Life Wrap” in which she uses several intermediate techniques such as overlay and mosaic crochet to give the piece a beautifully textured Native American textile and fiber art inspired design. The colorway she selected from the three offered is known as the Spirit of the Orchid.  The 2017 Crochet along (CAL) pattern for this piece is available for free and has nine total parts for completion.
