Jan Morris has worked at Smith for twenty-two years\u2014ten in the Office of the Registrar and twelve as an administrative assistant\u00a0in Student Affairs. While in the latter position, Jan created the blog, <\/span>Words of Wisdom<\/span><\/a> offering insights about the human experience to help students navigate their inner worlds.\u00a0 She also created \u201cThe Well-Street Journal,\u201d a monthly newsletter filled with information about fun events going on at Smith.\u00a0 Jan lives in Northfield with her partner, Dave, and two cats (who look like twins, but in personality are polar opposites).<\/span><\/p>\n

Jan has numerous hobbies outside of work. She is an avid photographer and uses her photographs to create greeting cards and decorative light switch plates. She also practices meditation regularly, writing and recording guided meditations to share with others. She offers private readings for people as a channeler of Spirit, especially when they need it most.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jan\u2019s most recent creative outlet is collage. She likes to create them out of pieces from magazines that have a dreamlike quality. She also likes to incorporate women’s bodies into nature scenes to show their strength and nurturing qualities and how they are not separate from the natural world around us.<\/span><\/p>\n

The piece she submitted to this showcase, titled “Reminiscence” depicts a mother’s leg as a tree branch which also holds a sleeping baby. The piece tells the story of mothers who often have dreams or reminisce back to when their children were babies, and how those dreams bring feelings of fondness and love.<\/span><\/p>\n
