About the Project
My piece, An Anomaly in the Deep, was created as a culmination of my time in the department and in partial fulfillment of my degree in Dance from Smith College. All senior students are required to create a piece for the senior dance concert. This is made possible, in part, by the Sharonjean Moser Leeds Endowment, a generous fund created by Sharonjean (Smith College ’67) and Richard Leeds for the Smith Department of Dance.
An Anomaly in the Deep uses ocean and water as a metaphor through which to explore intersectional identity, the grey area of mixed-ness, and the ever evolving journey of returning to roots. This piece asks what unknowns we are willing to wander into, what we cycle through, around what do we revolve, and what resurfaces/remains. Inside of this metaphor of water and ocean, we can build kinship to nature and find new ways to ask questions about ourselves.

Acknowledgements
I am so grateful to have had the space and time to create something beautiful with people during this pandemic. My growth as a mover, creator, and artist are in large part due to the gifts and support I have received from the Smith Dance Department during my time here. I’d like to acknowledge my dancers who were incredible collaborators in this process and brought my ideas to life. Thank you to the crew and production team who worked so many hours to make this possible and helped us see our visions come to light. Thank you to Tamsin Carlson and Sarah Swenson who grew my love for dance early on and helped build the foundation on which I have developed as an artist. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the Smith Dance Department and the Sharonjean Moser Leeds Endowment for providing this opportunity to me and my cohort.
