3.0 KM Process Log: New Cast!

This week I have finalized my cast. First years Di’Anna Bonomolo and Shelby Wilson will be joining me to make my past, present and future vision come to life! I was only able to meet with Di’anna briefly this week but the three of us will be having an in depth rehearsal this weekend where they will learn a large majority of the choreography.

My first meeting with Di’Anna involved me explaining the piece to her so she can get an idea of the set tone for the movement. It was important to me that the themes and motifs that will be represented in this piece were resonate for her, and they were. After giving the background info, we had a little skirt workshop where I gave her key movements that will be utilized for the piece and to get her comfortable in moving in the big skirt.

(I have to make her and Shelby practice skirts but it would be nice and save a lot of time if the department has any on hand that we can utilize)

Our second meeting took place in the studio where I began to set work on the both of us. I had a slight idea of what I wanted to teach her but there was still an overwhelming amount of ideas flowing at once in my head. To combat this, we danced off of each other, semi improvisational, until my thoughts and desired movement was clear. Here is what was set:

This movement is a part of the “past” section where the set movement has a big emphasis on weight being bearded and the heaviness of the cycle.

Next steps are to teach Shelby this movement and expand on it and teach the both of them the next two sections, beginning this Saturday. Very excited to see my movement on other bodies!
