5.0 KM Process Log: Almost There

The performance is growing closer and closer and my piece is so close to coming to its complete form. Each solo, past, present, and future is developed and represented at different points of the piece. I had one on one time with both Shelby and Di’anna about my original vision of their individual solos and how they can relate their own experiences to the concepts and incorporate their own thoughts and feelings into the work. Each solo, including mine still has some workshopping to go to get deeper into the role and weight of the piece, but each is also in a great space for this exploration to be continued. Through these one on ones I also had the opportunity to get to know my dancers on a deeper, personal level that strengthened our bond throughout the dance and beyond rehearsals also.

Along with the solo development, the accompanying choreography for each phase of the dance have grown closer to completion. I was able to expand on the rhythm rooted sections of the piece that resonate with my roots in West African and general grooving concepts within Black movement. I also began to play with moments of stillness and over exhaustion within the choreography.

There are a few gaps left to fill but it is almost there.
