On campus, she is the Co-Artistic Director of Celebrations Dance Company, the official student lead company of the college. Her studies have been structured with a wide range of technique courses, including, ballet, contemporary, modern, hip Hop, West African, contact improvisation, etc.; as well as extensive choreography development research. Some of her repertoire work during her time at Smith within the 5 college dance department includes \u201cA New Second Line\u201d by Camille A. Brown, various works from West African Choreographer Marilyn Sylla, and a series of Hip Hop Choreographies by Shakia Barron. She spent the second semester of her Junior year studying traditional Afro Cuban dance practices in Havana, Cuba with a focus on rumba and folkloric dance at the University of the Arts in Havana and with private tutors. Post-Graduation, she aspires to continue her training at the professional level and open her own arts nonprofit organization that serves as an outlet for growth and expression for marginalized youth.<\/p>\n<p>As a dance maker, flow and fusion are two of Kiara&#8217;s primary focuses. As a versatile dancer, moved by a series of styles, finding ways to appreciate and incorporate many at once in a work is always an adventure. Her favorite styles to fuse are modern, West African, and hip hop within a contemporary style of flow. Finding liberation within movement has always been Kiara&#8217;s internal motivation for dance.\u00a0<i>Source Return<\/i>\u00a0is an extension of the freedom she finds when connecting her mind, body and spirit through this practice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Hello!
