Do I need to sign up to audition?<\/strong>
\nNo! All you need to do is show up to auditions within the posted time slot (7-10pm) with a verse and chorus of any song to be sung a capella. All other materials will be provided to you by the production team, and the audition form will be available upon arrival.
\nI see there are two days of auditions. Do I need to attend both days?<\/strong>
\nNo! Auditionees only need to attend one day of auditions.
\nDoes everyone get a callback?<\/strong>
\nCallbacks are dependent on the number of auditionees and what the production team needs to see more of. Depending on the show, not every auditionee will receive a callback. Auditionees will hear back about callbacks via email by the night prior to the first day of callbacks, at the latest.
\nWill there be a dance call at auditions?<\/strong>
\nOur initial auditions only consist of a song and provided monologue, no dance. Depending on the production, callbacks may require up to two dance calls. The production team will be in contact with all auditionees about dance and other callbacks after auditions have concluded.
\nWhen does Duct Tape Productions rehearse?<\/strong>
\nRehearsals for DTP shows usually take place from 7-10 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as 1-5 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Not every member of the cast is called to all fourteen hours of rehearsal each week.
\nAre Duct Tape shows open to 5-College students?<\/strong>
\nYes! 5-College students are welcome to participate in all aspects of our productions. If you are interested in hearing more about our future productions, fill out this form<\/a> to be added to one of our email lists.
\nHow do I become an active organization member?<\/strong>
\nActive organization members are members of DTP who have been involved in a show (in any capacity) within the last two semesters! When you do something with the organization, you automatically become an active member.
\nHow do I become a director for DTP?<\/strong>
\nDirectors are selected for the following fall and spring semesters each spring by the Executive Board. A call for proposals is sent out to our active organization members each spring, and are typically due shortly after spring break concludes. Each director will be interviewed by the Executive Board, and soon thereafter, we will announce our next season\u2019s shows and directors! We encourage anyone interested to apply, regardless of directorial experience.
\nWhere can I keep up with DTP on social media?<\/strong>

What if I am interested in joining tech or performing in the pit?<\/strong>
\nTech and pit orchestra interest forms are sent to our interested students & active organization member email lists towards the beginning of the semester for each show. If you are interested in hearing more about future tech, pit, design, and production team opportunities, join our interested students mailing list here<\/a>!
\nWhat if I am interested in joining DTP, but have never done musical theatre before?<\/strong>
\nThis is completely fine! In fact, we encourage folks who have never participated in musical theatre before to join our organization. We welcome and accept all levels of experience! \nDoes Duct Tape Productions make casting cuts?<\/strong>
\nEach semester, the director works with the Executive Board to establish a casting cap that they feel capable of accommodating. Because of this, there are sometimes casting cuts made.
\nIf I am cut from the cast, can I still do tech?<\/strong>
\nAbsolutely! Keep an eye out for our tech interest form, or reach out to us via email to express your interest in getting involved with tech!
\nWhen was DTP founded?<\/strong>
\nDuct Tape Productions was founded in 2003 by Zoe Block \u201805. 2024 marks twenty-two years since our first production, \u201cA Little Night of Broadway.\u201d Since then, we have produced and performed 40+ musicals, and have grown from a small organization that performed in Davis Ballroom, to one of Smith\u2019s largest student organizations that performs in the beautiful John M. Greene Hall each semester! We\u2019re proud to be part of the Smith arts community, and can\u2019t wait to continue to offer a space for musical theatre and artistry at Smith.
\nAre there other places on campus to do musical theatre?<\/strong>
\nDuct Tape Productions is Smith College\u2019s largest musical theatre organization! Although Smith\u2019s Theatre department has done musicals in the past, their mainstage productions are typically straight plays. There are other wonderful student organizations on campus, like Smith\u2019s Student Theatre Committee, Smith Shakes, The Valley Troupe, and Thank You, Five that perform theatre as well! If you\u2019re looking for musical theater, Duct Tape Productions is the place for you.
