Reflection:
For my project, I decided to write a satiric diary entry that takes quotes and components from famous love poems and romantic monologues. The author of the entry is a fictional character who refuses to believe in the existence of love. Instead, the author believes that logic should replace love in society. I titled my project, “A Denihilist’s Love Letter to Logic: A Diary Entry” due to the ironic nature of the entry. Despite denying love as a reality, the author has fallen in love with logic. To signify this, I capitalized the word “logic” in the letter to personify the concept of logic–as if the author was writing about his lover. The word “denihilist” in the title is a play on words, combining both denialist and nihilist, expanding upon the author’s delusion.
My intention with this project was to turn media that praises love into a similar poetic media that takes on an entirely different perspective on love. Therefore, this project was original due to its original concept, yet also remains a remix due to its utilization of poetic formatting and direct quotes. The three pieces of media that I incorporated into this entry include “Olivia’s Love Monologue” from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Maya Angelou’s poem “Come, and Be my Baby”, and Allen Ginsberg’s “The Weight of the World is Love”. *
