I really enjoyed experimental poetry! I had a lot of fun restructuring my poems into new forms. I feel like I hadn’t taken a lot of consideration into how much the visuals of a poem can impact it’s meaning and delivery, but after the readings I realized there were so many more options with how to structure a poem in order to add to its quality. I definitely want to keep working with this concept in the future!
I have really enjoyed exploring poetry over the past few weeks. It has been a bit of a challenge for me, because I haven’t done a bunch of poetry writing before, but I have really enjoyed it! It has been fun to read and discuss poems in class and see the variety of directions poetry leads the writer.
I really enjoy reading experimental poetry, though it’s hard for me to create it myself. I like how it often emphasizes the visual aspect of poetry, which we don’t always see with traditional poems that prioritize oral delivery. It’s like a work of visual art.
I think my takeaway is that I’ve realized how creative I’ve become with my imagery. I think I sometimes get so caught up in what feels right with the context of the piece but there are no limits and I think I’ve been pushing myself in that. The exercises in class have also helped a lot with not isolating myself from topics.
I have enjoyed the readings this week and examining how different writers push the boundaries of what it means for something to be poetic. I also enjoyed noticing how a lot of experimentalism has to do with how an author decides to put something on a page. It was also my first and only full group workshop which was a very interesting and informative experience for me. I loved hearing all the different voices and opinions on what I had written.
I really enjoyed the experimental poetry this week. It pushed the boundaries of a form of writing that I was already inexperienced with but in such a way that I had the most fun writing the experimental prose over the other prose I have tried to write. I have also found the workshops this week to be particularly helpful, even if I wasn’t my piece being workshopped, as a lot of the advice/suggestions given was really insightful. I was really impressed by all the poetry that has been workshopped thus far and I am eager to keep exploring this genre.
The experimental poetry was difficult for me to parse through, but it was rewarding nonetheless to see how the boundaries of such a boundery-less art can be broken. A specific poem that I’ve had to give a reread is “line dance for an american textbook.” There is something grating about tracking all those lines, but it’s so beautiful to watch the colors come together. I enjoyed what everyone had to bring to workshops, and was impressed by all the different forms and uses of language.
