  1. I enjoy it when we do full group workshops, I think that my perspective can offer valuable information and my peers make me feel like what I have to say matters and is important. I like uplifting my peers’ beautiful work as well as advising them on how to make the piece the strongest that it can be.

  2. The six word story was actually a lot more difficult than I would have given it credit for. I had to sit there and think for a while. It was almost like a really hard to follow budget because you only have six words and want to use them wisely and get as much information in just a few words as possible. We have been so fluid throughout this class that something so rigid was like shifting gears.

  3. This week was really helpful for me being in the big group crit. I mostly learned that I can add more descriptions to clarify sports and characters. I also am shifting my piece to be focused on the family dynamics and how they impact the protagonist as an athlete.

  4. This most recent workshop had me realize how little time twenty minutes is, and how important it is to find the sections of a piece that you really feel hold weight, whether that’s because they need to be improved or really need to be kept in tact through the revision process, and let the group know.

  5. Having my peer review workshop this week was very helpful for me; it particularly helped me see how people could interpret my own works in ways different from what I intended. The feedback I received has led me to begin refining my own abilities, particularly when it comes to the clarity in my stories and how I portray my characters. Beyond my own workshop I found a lot of the advice regarding writing characters given in the other workshops really helpful in how I approach my own story. I have a lot of new insight to consider when I go to refine my story, and a lot of decisions to consider, especially regarding the plot and the different ways I can twist it based on the feedback I received.

  6. I really appreciated being able to get feedback on my essay during the fiction full group workshop this week. It was really helpful to hear from others about how my writing came across to the readers and how I could develop the piece further. I got some really great ideas from everyone and really appreciated the time and effort everyone put in to helping me. It was also great to start reading other essays and help others develop their ideas!

  7. When I had my full group workshop I learned a lot about my essay and the small changes that could make a big difference to the overall impact. The most important was building tension through dialogue and a character’s internal reactions, specifically at the final moments of my essay. I am excited to get to work on the final draft and work on this.
