She said, \u201cWhat you cannot deny me is medicine\u2019s constant changes and the many times it has been modified,\u201d indicating that she had studied developments in the history of medicine (Sabuco 179). She saw that our understanding of science is not static, and she chose to contribute her ideas to the wider discourse. Additionally, unlike many other women authors of her time, Sabuco\u2019s dedication \u201coffers no apology for the fact that it is published under a woman\u2019s name.\u201d<sup data-fn=\"bc5a0637-9d5a-4505-bbb9-7a545a7cb61e\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#bc5a0637-9d5a-4505-bbb9-7a545a7cb61e\" id=\"bc5a0637-9d5a-4505-bbb9-7a545a7cb61e-link\">5<\/a><\/sup> She projected confidence in her theories and her scientific abilities at a time when women\u2019s intellect was marginalized, both deliberately and by default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sabuco framed her treatises as Socratic dialogues, which would have been familiar to early modern readers. It guides the reader to the point that the author wants to make by addressing counter arguments that they might have to each individual point, building a case that, assuming the dialogue is well reasoned, is difficult to dispute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sabuco wrote extensively on the connections between the mind and the body, including how mental health and emotions can affect physical processes.<sup data-fn=\"d8c48f01-4bfb-4829-84dd-c22529088aa3\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#d8c48f01-4bfb-4829-84dd-c22529088aa3\" id=\"d8c48f01-4bfb-4829-84dd-c22529088aa3-link\">6<\/a><\/sup> Furthermore, she theorized about the transmission of diseases; she, in accordance with the dominant theory of the time, attributed the spread of some diseases to \u201cbad odors or fumes that kill,\u201d but she also presented an early theory of airborne transmission between humans (Sabuco 209). She suggested that \u201ccontagious diseases like the plague [&#8230;] are carried by humans and enter through respiration and produce fatal decrements.\u201d<sup data-fn=\"64660051-23cf-4a92-8725-6b18fcc402b6\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#64660051-23cf-4a92-8725-6b18fcc402b6\" id=\"64660051-23cf-4a92-8725-6b18fcc402b6-link\">7<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>New Philosophy<\/em> was reprinted several times during Sabuco\u2019s lifetime, though up until recently the work was attributed to her father.<sup data-fn=\"5f003ea9-55fe-491b-8f48-c8e463aec7f6\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#5f003ea9-55fe-491b-8f48-c8e463aec7f6\" id=\"5f003ea9-55fe-491b-8f48-c8e463aec7f6-link\">8<\/a><\/sup>  Since the uncovering of her identity in 2006, her work has gained recognition as an important part of the history of women&#8217;s contributions to science.<sup data-fn=\"070c1dc4-2ddc-4e5d-b3c8-8ed2a8198652\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#070c1dc4-2ddc-4e5d-b3c8-8ed2a8198652\"
