Madeleine et Georges travaillent ensemble pour \u00e9crire des articles, et les articles de Duroy ressemblent donc beaucoup aux anciens articles de Forestier \u2013 \u00e0 tel point que les autres journalistes l&#8217;appellent Forestier pour le railler, ce qui f\u00e2che Duroy. Il devient obs\u00e9d\u00e9 de la m\u00e9moire de Forestier, et ne supporte plus que Madeleine le mentionne.&nbsp;<em>La Vie fran\u00e7aise&nbsp;<\/em>m\u00e8ne une attaque contre le minist\u00e8re des affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res, au sujet du Maroc. Georges d\u00e9cide qu&#8217;il ne va plus s&#8217;inqui\u00e9ter ni de sa femme, ni de Forestier \u2013 ce sera \u00abChacun pour soi\u00bb.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:14px\">ch. 3 : Au journal, Georges fait entendre que le prochain qui l&#8217;appelle \u00abForestier\u00bb sera gifl\u00e9 et que cela provoquera un duel. Il recommence sa relation avec Clotilde, qui lui dit aussi que Mme Walter a une passion pour lui, et qu&#8217;il aurait pu se marier avec la fille Walter, Suzanne. Cela le fait r\u00eaver. Apr\u00e8s Clotilde et Madeleine, Mme Walter l&#8217;appelle aussi Bel-Ami. \u00c0 Madeleine, Georges ne parle pas de Forestier sans le traiter de \u00abce cocu de Forestier\u00bb, ce qui la blesse.
