{"id":859,"date":"2018-11-12T02:40:48","date_gmt":"2018-11-12T02:40:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/ger297-f18\/?p=859"},"modified":"2018-11-28T17:52:07","modified_gmt":"2018-11-28T17:52:07","slug":"stollwercks-sammel-album-no-2-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/ger297-f18\/859\/","title":{"rendered":"Stollwerck&#8217;s Sammel Album No. 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Picture 1: Quarters in Paris.<br \/>\nThe German force advances victorious in all<br \/>\nAnd on the far horizon, the towers of Paris call.<br \/>\nBut the French have forts that ring the city; they\u2019re there at every pass<br \/>\nTheir fire slows our way ahead, but we take them all at last.<br \/>\nIn Paris we find a place to stay, as nice as can be found,<br \/>\nAnd rest, and play, write letters home that tell of our renown.<\/p>\n<p>Picture 2: Paris.<br \/>\nAnd when the forts were taken, we stood upon their heights<br \/>\nWe saw with awe the magnificence of Paris big and bright.<br \/>\nThere it lies with all its towers, that proud and glorious name,<br \/>\nWe looked for hours upon it and will never be the same.<br \/>\nHans hears his heart beat stronger, he senses the goal is near.<br \/>\nHe waves his helmet above him and lets out a joyous cheer.<\/p>\n<p>Picture 3: Good Camaraderie.<br \/>\nBut on the way to Paris there\u2019s fighting all the way<br \/>\nAnd many a young man with his life does pay.<br \/>\nEven Hans is sorely wounded and sinks then to the ground<br \/>\nBut a rider pulls him from the field and makes him safe and sound.<br \/>\nWhen the wound is partly healed, Hans will wait no more.<br \/>\nHe takes his gun and hurries back to fight in this glorious war.<\/p>\n<p>Picture 4: Christmastime Before Paris<br \/>\nThe fighting never seems to end, as Christmastime is near.<br \/>\nBut then a pause and quiet reigns, which now we hold quite dear.<br \/>\nIn enemy land Hans will celebrate the Yuletide<br \/>\nWith a little tree and all his comrades at his side.<br \/>\nWhen he looks at the twinkling lights, he feels a bit of sorrow<br \/>\nAnd thinks of home where he wishes he were tomorrow.<br \/>\nPicture 5: Fighting the Partisans.<\/p>\n<p>But the war continues its bloody and goes on far and wide<br \/>\nAnd worst of all, new enemies appear on every side.<br \/>\nEven the farmers in some locales take part in the fight<br \/>\nThey shoot at us most cowardly while hiding out of sight.<br \/>\nAnd sometimes Hans is the target of their play,<br \/>\nBut he fears them not and always can chase them away.<\/p>\n<p>Picture 6: Bloody Payback.<br \/>\nHans was once attacked by such a band and to them a lesson he did teach.<br \/>\nHe fought bravely and beat every one of them within his reach.<br \/>\nDespite their numbers he chased them away<br \/>\nAnd takes their leader captive, taking him to the general.<br \/>\nHe\u2019s then taken to the camp where justice is met<br \/>\nAnd the cowardly murderer meets his end.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Picture 1: Quarters in Paris.
