The Smith College Ski Patrol (1944-1948) was a student organized response to increasing safety concerns of Hospital “Dippy” Hill. As a community, Smithies wanted to ensure that there were precautions in place in case anyone got injured while skiing.<\/p>\n

According to the Skiing Records Book entry for 1950, the qualifications for ski patrol were the following:<\/p>\n

  1. Pass Skill Test<\/em>\n
      \n
    1. Run through Slalom Course (on Hospital Hill)<\/em><\/li>\n
    2. Controlled snowplow and snowplow turns<\/em><\/li>\n
    3. Ability to bring toboggan down slope<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    4. Have standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The Duties of Ski Patrol included:<\/em><\/p>\n

      1. Patrol “Dippy” (Hospital) Hill during Open hours (assigned days)<\/em><\/li>\n
      2. Teach beginners on “Dippy” Hill<\/em><\/li>\n
