Below this bar are the tools that you&#8217;ll use to create your map. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the <strong>Add Marker<\/strong> icon to create points on your map and the <strong>Draw a Line<\/strong> and <strong>Measure Distances<\/strong> icons to create and measure routes between multiple points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Uploading a Spreadsheet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also upload a spreadsheet of data to My Maps. If your data rows contain cells with locations (text or coordinates), it will automatically generate a layer of points on the map corresponding to those locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"636\" height=\"364\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/ickb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/890\/2025\/08\/importdata-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2936 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/ickb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/890\/2025\/08\/importdata-1.png 636w, https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/ickb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/890\/2025\/08\/importdata-1-300x172.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>To do this, first create a layer by selecting <strong>Add Layer<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, click the blue <strong>Import<\/strong> button below the new layer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A window will open. Drag and drop your spreadsheet into the import window or use the <strong>Browse<\/strong> button to find the file on your computer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Your points will automatically be generated and the layer will be renamed to match the name of your spreadsheet. You can change this by clicking the customize appearance\/individual styles button, indicated by a blue paint roller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the drop-down menu under &#8220;Group places by&#8221; to change the style. You can also change the title of your icon groups with this feature.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If your points are individually styled, you can click on an individual point to alter the color. Click on the point, and click the color paint can icon that appears at the bottom of the pop-up window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Editing Metadata<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of if your points are styled uniformly or individually, you can edit the metadata associated with them, associate a photo or video to any individual point, or delete one from the set. To do this click on a point, as you did above. In the pop-up window, you\u2019ll see the metadata that is associated with the point from the spreadsheet you loaded. You\u2019ll be prompted to upload a photo or paste a video URL to the point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To delete the point, click the delete place (trash can) button.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finishing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you map is complete, click the <strong>Share<\/strong> button next to the New Layer button in the map sidebar.
