\nPurchased through the initiative of the Korean American Students of Smith (KASS) and the Korean Arts Foundation (KAF) with gifts of alumnae and other donors.<\/p>\n

As student-led acquisitions are becoming more prominent upon building the collection of the SCMA, gifts from Smith alumnae have become signature works of the SCMA holdings. A purchase proposal of Movement<\/em> is presented through Sohl Lee ’06 and other members of the Korean American Students of Smith (KASS), first founded in 1985, to celebrate the newly established Korean Arts Foundation (KAF) in 2007.<\/p>\n

Originally commissioned by the Asia Society, New York, to mark the opening of its museum after renovation and expansion, Movement<\/em> was purchased in 2007 after an international fundraising effort and was later revised and modified as the centerpiece for MOVEMENT \uc6c0\uc9c1\uc784<\/em>, an exhibition comprised of works of contemporary art by established and emerging Korean-born artists. It’s one of Min’s major works manifesting her post-colonialist and feminist ideology.<\/p>\n

As her ideas for the revised version of Movement continued to evolve, Min decided to include music CDs and to eliminate the clock mechanisms of the original installation.<\/p>\n
