“Inspired by a huge mass of a bush on Smith’s campus, I cut long spiked strips of paper varying in size and form. Spikes and sharpness are an element that felt right for my entry into paper sculpture. I started by twisting one strand of spikes into a ball, then placing the different strands purposefully around in, building the piece’s mass to create the most volume- another aspect important to me to evoke the same energy of that massive plant that caught my attention.”
