Organization Description
Mission: We aim to improve the quality and safety of public spaces, increase recreational access, enhance air and water quality, and grow our community of trail users. We work in cooperation with local governance, chambers of commerce, and similar organizations to create community building events and identify grants to fund these endeavors. We also maintain infrastructure and envision expanded access to sustainable transportation in our region.
Goals: Our goal is to foster better public health and quality of life for Northampton’s residents and visitors by enhancing the trail network and conducting activities that sustain and grow the community of trail users.
Placement Description
- Digital Marketing Manager (intern or volunteer): Help publicize the mission and goals of Friends of Northampton Trails to the greater community.
- Trail Clean-up Volunteer: Work with other volunteers to clean up your favorite local trails.
- Bike Marshall Volunteer: Provide safety and support for cyclists.
- Skills:
- For marketing manager: working knowledge of and experience with MailChimp, WordPress, and Canva is helpful
- Desire to give back to the community and improve our public green spaces for people from all backgrounds and abilities to enjoy
- Training: Some training is necessary for marketing manager and bike marshal placements.
Time Commitment
1-2 hours/week
How to Get Involved
To become a volunteer/intern, visit the Friends of Northampton Trails website or email Elena Huisman at elena@fntrails.org. Throughout the year, we also do trail cleanups, monthly bike rides, and events such as tabling at the city’s Bike Month celebration in May.
