Organization Description
Mission: Center for New Americans (CNA) is a non-profit, community-based organization, serving under-served immigrants, refugees, and migrants in western Massachusetts, offering resources to learn English, become involved members of their communities and obtain tools necessary to maintain economic independence and stability. CNA operates three sites: Northampton, Greenfield, and Amherst, and draws students and clients from Hampshire, Franklin, and Hampden counties.
Goals: CNA aims to offer English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) classes, provide support services, and offer Citizenship and Immigration Services for under-served immigrant communities. ESOL tutors will work one-on-one with learners weekly with the primary goal being to meet learner’s own language goals and increase cross-cultural understanding.
Placement Description
- ESOL Classroom Assistant: Assist teachers with small group or individual support
- ESOL Tutor: Work one-on-one with ESOL learner on various language skills and topics to supplement classes online or in-person. (Topics may include things such as studying for driver’s permit test)
- Tech Assistant: Provide students with tech support with the tech team

- Training: 5-hour initial training and 2 hours of observation necessary
