Organization Description
Mission: Established more than 30 years ago, the Massachusetts Fair Housing Center (MFHC) is the oldest private organization devoted solely to fair housing advocacy in Massachusetts. MFHC serves residents in five counties in Western and Central Massachusetts, with a population of more than two million persons. MFHC takes a multi-faceted approach to achieving its fair housing mission by engaging in public education, fair housing testing investigations, federal and state litigation, housing mobility counseling, and public policy advocacy.
Goals: The Massachusetts Fair Housing Center is committed to ending systemic housing discrimination through education, outreach, legal advocacy, housing counseling and enforcement.
Placement Description
- Fair Housing Intern: Conduct housing discrimination complaint intakes, investigations and engage in legal advocacy
- Public Policy Intern: Conduct research on significant policy issues to advance fair housing principles and promote equal housing opportunities
- Social Media Intern: Educate the community about civil rights in housing, through creative use of social media
- Skills:
- Interest in and passion for civil rights
- Reliable transportation to and from site
- Spanish-speaking is not necessary but preferred
- Training: Necessary trainings will be provided.
Time Commitment
At least 8 hr/week
