The organization welcomes all and makes a strong commitment to ensuring community honor and respect.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goals:<\/strong>\u00a0ILI\u2019s goals are to promote cultural competence, language learning, and celebrate the rich cultural traditions of its students.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#11754d;font-size:30px\"><strong>Placement Description<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Tutor<\/strong>: Work with adult English learners studying in ILI\u2019s\u00a0free English classes for immigrants and refugees living\u00a0in Western MA <em>(Classes meet in the evenings on Zoom and in-person at ILI)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lunchtime Conversation Assistant:<\/strong> From 12pm-1pm, come to ILI, and chat with students in the Intensive English Program during their one-hour lunch break<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Volunteer Activity Leader:<\/strong>\u00a0Host\u00a0indoor afternoon activities (after 2:30) for small groups, such as a game afternoon at ILI (all ideas are welcome), and take small groups (~2-6) of students on outings around Northampton within walking distance to ILI \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Media and\/or Writing Volunteer<\/strong>:\u00a0Create Language Travel brochures using Canva. Write articles related to language or culture, and interview ILI students to write up interviews for publication in newsletters and social media. Write articles for the future Language Travel newsletter with traveling tips and other helpful &#8220;study abroad&#8221; information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Skills:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>English fluency\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Good interpersonal skills <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A love of educating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patience\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Competence with using social media (Facebook, Instagram, Google, and iMovie) for the media position <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Training<\/strong>:\u00a0ILI provides a workshop to community volunteers who tutor current and former\u00a0students. Tutors must attend two 3-hour training sessions, observe 6 hrs. of ESOL classes,\u00a0and\u00a0attend one in-service follow-up session 1-2 months later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#11754d;font-size:30px\"><strong>Time Commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 4 hr\/week<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#11754d;font-size:30px\"><strong>How to Get Involved<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For tutoring positions, complete the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/ZBBxky3tVcccFMmy5\">volunteer tutor application<\/a>.
