(Smith 3rd year students finished TOBIRA textbook in the fall semester.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/sdgs\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-123\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/japanese-tadoku-project\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/412\/2019\/04\/Icons-FINAL-300x183.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/japanese-tadoku-project\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/412\/2019\/04\/Icons-FINAL-300x183.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/japanese-tadoku-project\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/412\/2019\/04\/Icons-FINAL-768x469.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/japanese-tadoku-project\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/412\/2019\/04\/Icons-FINAL-1024x626.png 1024w, https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/japanese-tadoku-project\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/412\/2019\/04\/Icons-FINAL-157x96.png 157w, https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/japanese-tadoku-project\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/412\/2019\/04\/Icons-FINAL.png 1227w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Essential Questions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Smith 3rd year Japanese course was designed to explore the following essential questions during the semester:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What does quality of education mean to people and contribute to our society? <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Which SDG goals would relate to achieve the Goal #4 and how? <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What elements does good education have and provide for people?<\/span><\/li>\n<li>How would you be able to become a part of SDG community and contribute to the Goal #4?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Toward the end of the semester, students came up with some ideas about what type of educational components or cultural aspects would be great to be shared across the world and how those ideas would be applied to improve the current quality of education.\u00a0 The students were assigned to write four paper to develop their ideas to contemplate the essential questions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>What impact would this project bring to communities?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I am hoping that this project will help the students of JHL and JFL at P.S. 147 develop their reading skills in Japanese with readable, educational, fun booklets, as well as allow the teachers to enhance their curricula with the reading materials. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moreover, the booklets will allow students to share their learning and facilitate conversations at home with their families using Japanese. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As for Smith 3rd year Japanese, the project will provide them with public scholarship experience by applying their knowledge and skills in Japanese, as well as their ideas and creativity to support another learning community. \u00a0The final products will be shared online under the Creative Commons license (with the permission of the students who created the booklets).\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I hope that this project will potentially become a partnership between K-12 and higher education to enhance quality of education in both sides.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>JPN 3o2 Spring 2019 Cohort: <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jada Dickerson\u201919, Sarah Ducharme<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201921, Jillian Hu &#8217;21, Qiyi Qian<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201920<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Fei (Ann) Ping Wong<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201919, and Echo Zhang \u201919.
