The Evolution of Gender Diversity at Historically Women’s Colleges

What does it mean to be a Historically Women’s College in 2023? How has the acceptance of trans and nonbinary students altered our perception of these institutions? Queer people have long found community in HWCs, however it has not been easy, especially for non cisgender women. It was not until 2015 that Smith College revised its policy to accept transgender women. Despite this step in the right direction there is still more change to be made.
