An anonymous alum, moved by the mission and vision of Meridians<\/em>, has committed a foundational endowed gift of $1 million to inspire other alums to join in sustaining the journal and help it expand globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caren Byrd Borland’s Bio<\/summary>\n

Caren Byrd is a Senior Advisor in Morgan Stanley\u2019s Global Power, Utilities and Renewables Group. She joined the Investment Banking Division of the firm in 1972 and was a Managing Director until January 2024 when she moved to being a Senior Advisor of the Firm. She has focused all her career on the power and utility industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Byrd is an expert on the requirements of investors in the equity and debt securities in the energy industry. She is involved in the firm\u2019s activities for the utility industry including, financing, advisory services, restructuring and mergers and acquisitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Byrd serves on the Advisory Council of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), an organization which promotes the highest levels of safety and reliability in the operation of commercial nuclear power plants. From 2010 to 2015, Ms. Byrd served on the board of directors of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), where she was a member of the Executive committee and Audit committee. Previously, she served for three years as a member of EPRI\u2019s Advisory Council. In 2023, Ms. Byrd was appointed to the Edison Electric Institute Wall Street Advisory Group (WSAG) comprised of leaders in the financial community who interface with the electric power companies on issues of importance to the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Byrd is the co-founder and organizer of Morgan Stanley\u2019s Executive Women in Energy Group and also Women Energy Directors Network, established in 2004 and 2007, respectively. These groups bring together the leading women leaders and directors in power and utility industries on a semi-annual basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2019, Ms. Byrd was awarded the Global Energy Lifetime Achievement Award by S&P Global Platts, one of the most respected distinctions in the power and energy industry. In April 2021, Ms. Byrd was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Women\u2019s History Museum. She serves on its Executive Committee and also chairs the Development Committee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Byrd holds the Chartered Financial Analyst\u00ae designation, and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of New York (formerly the New York Society of Security Analysts.) She received a bachelor\u2019s degree from Smith College and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth Borland’s Bio<\/summary>\n

Elizabeth Borland ’97 is a Professor of Sociology at The College of New Jersey. Her scholarly interests include gender in organizations, feminist collective action, law and society, and applied sociology. Her gender-related scholarship appears in Gender & Society, Feminist Studies, Frontiers, Men and Masculinities, Mobilization, Sociological Perspectives,<\/em> and Culture, Health & Sexuality.<\/em> A supporter of interdisciplinary scholarship, she is Treasurer of the Greater Philadelphia Human Studies Council and former chair of the Greater Philadelphia Latin American Studies Consortium. The journal would be able to publish a third yearly issue of high-quality scholarship, creative writing, and art with increased funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding would help enhance the journal’s award-winning digital feature with multilingual content aimed at priority regions of global feminist activism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added resources would boost journal access for scholars and activists in under-resourced regions of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journal would expand artist residencies for winners of the Elizabeth Alexander Creative Writing Award, a key prize for writers’ careers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
