Marjorie Senechal is the Louise Wolff Kahn Professor Emerita in Mathematics and History of Science and Technology at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and former Editor-in-Chief of The Mathematical Intelligencer.

Marjorie grew up on the Narcotic Farm, a federal prison/hospital for drug addicts on 1200 acres of bluegrass near Lexington, Kentucky. As a child she had the run of the place, from the horse barns to the bowling alley, and became acquainted with remarkable individuals from many walks of life. That may be why she has freely followed her academic interests wherever they led her: from number theory to the patterns of atoms in crystals to a year as an exchange scientist in Moscow, U.S.S.R., to the mountains of northern Albania to . . .. Her books include Quasicrystals and Geometry, Long Life to Your Children: a portrait of High Albania, American Silk 1830 – 1930, Shaping Space, and I Died For Beauty: Dorothy Wrinch and the Cultures of Science.
