These spaces were founded upon and are contributors to some of the Bay Area\u2019s defining factors: ethnic diversity, cultural expression through the arts, and a strong grassroots activism presence. Unlike many traditional art museums, these organizations have the ability to authentically and successfully collaborate with underrepresented communities. Throughout my project, I explore how various multidisciplinary cultural organizations in the Bay Area disrupt or reconfigure traditional institutional hierarchies. As these organizations are now more vulnerable than ever under the Trump administration and due to the ongoing, increasing Bay Area financial crisis, I will examine how these organizations address their equity, inclusion, and engagement missions while navigating financial instabilities.
