      GET STARTED <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Download the ENG\/PYX301_indesign_materials.zip<\/strong> folder from Google Drive which contains all of the template and preset files outlined above.

        \u2606 To unzip on a Mac<\/strong>, double-click <\/strong>on the zipped folder. Move the unzipped version of the folder to your storage device.

        \u2606 To unzip on a Windows machine<\/strong>, right-click<\/strong> on the zipped folder \u2192<\/strong> choose \u201cExtract All\u2026\u201d<\/strong> \u2192<\/strong> choose \u201cExtract\u201d<\/strong> \u2192<\/strong> then skip<\/strong> any other messages. Move the unzipped version of the folder to your storage device.
        <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. NOTE<\/mark><\/strong><\/mark> : Please make sure you have a hard drive, flash drive, or folder to store *all*<\/strong> of your project’s files! It is critical to save everything in one place. 
        <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Open InDesign:

        \u2606 To find InDesign on a Mac<\/strong>, hold down the command key<\/strong> and the spacebar<\/strong> to bring up Spotlight Search<\/strong> \u2192<\/strong> type in \u201cInDesign\u201d<\/strong> and hit return<\/strong>.

        \u2606 To find InDesign on a Windows machine<\/strong>, search for \u201cInDesign\u201d<\/strong> at the bottom of the home screen.

      4. Once the sign in screen appears, select \u201cContinue with Google\u201d<\/strong> \u2192<\/strong> first enter your complete @smith.edu email address<\/strong> \u2192<\/strong> then when directed to the Smith SSO screen, login with your Smith username<\/strong> (without the @smith.edu) and password<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        LOAD IN PRESETS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        1. Once InDesign opens, go to Edit \u2192 Color Settings\u2026 \u2192 <\/strong>under Working Spaces \u2192 <\/strong>next to RGB: <\/strong>select sRGB IEC61966-2.1<\/strong> from the dropdown menu and next to CMYK:<\/strong> select U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 \u2192 <\/strong>clickOK.<\/strong>
          <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Next, go to Edit<\/strong> once again \u2192 Transparency Flattener Presets\u2026 \u2192 <\/strong>click on Load\u2026 \u2192 <\/strong>navigate to the folder of templates and presets \u2192 <\/strong>select Lulu-High-Res-Outlines.flst \u2192 <\/strong>select this option so that it is highlighted \u2192  <\/strong>click OK. <\/strong>
          <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Now, go to File \u2192 Adobe PDF Presets<\/strong> \u2192 Define\u2026 \u2192 Load\u2026 \u2192 <\/strong>navigate to the folder of templates and presets \u2192 <\/strong>click on Lulu-Interior-Print-PDF.joboptions \u2192 <\/strong>hit Done.<\/strong>

        4. Repeat the last step again and go to File \u2192 Adobe PDF Presets<\/strong> \u2192 Define\u2026 \u2192 Load\u2026 \u2192 <\/strong>navigate to the folder of templates and presets \u2192 <\/strong>click on Lulu-Cover-Print-PDF.joboptions<\/strong> \u2192 <\/strong>hit Done.<\/strong>

          CREATE YOUR COVER<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          1. Locate the lulu-digest-paperback-template.indd<\/strong> file and open it. <\/strong>This template is set up as 3 pages arranged in a spread (back, spine, and front).
            <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Once open, go to File<\/strong> \u2192 Save as\u2026 \u2192 <\/strong>give this document a new name and save it in the same folder as the rest of the resources. Always preserve the templates by saving your work as a new InDesign document<\/strong><\/mark>.<\/strong>
            <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Make all of your design in the \u201cYour Artwork\u201d layer of the template file, do NOT place your materials in the \u201cTemplate Guides – TURN OFF\u201d layer. <\/mark><\/strong>
            <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          4. Design your cover keeping in mind the placement of the barcode etc.

            CREATE YOUR INTERIOR<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            1. Find the Template-Poetry-Bodoni.indd<\/strong> file and open it.
              <\/li>\n\n\n\n
            2. Once open,  go to File<\/strong> \u2192 Save as\u2026 \u2192 <\/strong>rename this project and save it in the same folder as the rest of your project.

            3. Copy\/paste your text inside, edit according to your style and content.

              CHOOSING A FONT<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              For the body text, serif fonts are best and more easily trackable when the text is dense. Keep font size around 10-12-point, don\u2019t go smaller than 10-point. Some popular body text fonts are: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              For titles and headings, you can go with a sans serif font, in order to create more visual interest and to clearly identify a new section. Make it stand out with a larger font size, typically around 14-point. Some popular title and heading fonts are: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              BEFORE EXPORTING<\/strong>: ADJUST THE COVER’S SPINE WIDTH<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              First, calculate the spine width using this formula: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Spine width in inches = (# of interior pages \/ 444) + 0.06 in *round this to the 4th<\/sup> decimal *<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Then, adjust the spine margin in the .indd template file accordingly (see video tutorial here<\/strong><\/a>)<\/strong> :
              <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              1. Go to Window<\/strong> \u2192 make sure that Control<\/strong> is checked on \u2713<\/strong> (displays Control Bar<\/strong> at the top).
                <\/li>\n\n\n\n
              2. Next, go to Window<\/strong> \u2192 Interactive<\/strong> \u2192 Liquid Layout <\/strong>(opens Liquid Layout<\/strong> panel, you may drag that to the side of the screen).
                <\/li>\n\n\n\n
              3. In the Toolbar<\/strong>, select the Page<\/strong> tool \u2192 <\/strong>then <\/strong>go to the Control Bar<\/strong> (which will update with options for the Page <\/strong>tool) \u2192  <\/strong>ensure that Objects Move with Page<\/strong> is checked \u2713<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                1. Go to the Pages<\/strong> panel \u2192 double-click<\/strong> on the middle \u201cspine\u201d page (should highlight the spine page).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                  1. Go to the Liquid Layout<\/strong> panel \u2192 in the Liquid Page Rule<\/strong> dropdown menu  \u2192 choose Object-based.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                      1. Done! The spine page in the center of the spread should adjust with the new width, subsequently adjusting the width of the entire spread. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

                        EXPORTING THE INTERIOR<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                        Once you have finished the design and format, you now need to export a PDF of the interior according to the Lulu recommended job options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          \n
                        1. Make sure to have loaded in the presets before continuing to the next instructions.
                          <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        2. Go to File<\/strong> \u2192 Adobe PDF Presets \u2192 <\/strong>select Lulu-Interior-Print-PDF\u2026<\/strong>
                          <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        3. Name this exported file, choose its location, and hit Save<\/strong>.
                          <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        4. You do not need to change anything here.
                          <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        5. Hit Export<\/strong> at the bottom of the window.

                          Done with the interior PDF!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

                          EXPORTING THE COVER<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                          Finish design and export PDF according to the preset job options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                          1. Make sure to have loaded in the presets before continuing to the next instructions.

                          2. Hide the template layer by clicking the eye<\/strong> to the left of the layer\u2019s name in the Layers<\/strong> panel.

                          3. Go to File \u2192 Adobe PDF Presets \u2192 Lulu-Cover-Print-PDF\u2026<\/strong>
                            <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          4. Name this exported file, choose its location, and hit Save<\/strong>.

                          5. You do not need to change anything here.
