You can access many of the customizable options from the WordPress dashboard. In the main navigation, select Appearance to customize the Theme, or overall look of your site, add Widgets, and update the site\u2019s navigation with Menus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WordPress Customizer is accessible from the WordPress dashboard, and from the WordPress toolbar that displays on your site when you are logged in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Themes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A WordPress theme defines the overall layout and visual style of your site. Each theme has slightly different ways of displaying whatever content you put into your site.&nbsp;One theme may put your menu in the upper right hand corner, while another puts it on the top. Read on for a brief introduction to the most used options, and can find out more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/article\/appearance-customize-screen\/\">customizer at WordPress\u2019s Customizer page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Typography<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some themes allow you to change the font of your site. The typography option typically lets you change the individual font for the sites&#8217;s paragraph text and headers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Menus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Menus allow you to create navigation for your site. &nbsp;You can create single-layer or drop-down menus. &nbsp;Menus can include links to anything on your site such as pages, posts, categories or custom links.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/project-resources\/creating-and-managing-wordpress-menus\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"343\">Creating and Managing WordPress Menus<\/a> to find out how to customize your menus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Widgets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWidgets\u201d are customizable blocks of content that you can add to the sidebar and\/or the footers of your site. Widgets can be used to create content you\u2019d like to display on each page, and\/or list groups of posts. By default, your WordPress site will display the latest posts in chronological order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To set a static homepage, you first need to create a page for your homepage. Once you&#8217;ve created a homepage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigate to the customizer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose Homepage Settings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From &#8220;Your homepage displays&#8221; choose <strong>A static page<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Publish<\/strong> to save your pages<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Need a refresher on posts vs. pages?
