She grew up in Delaware County, outside of Philadelphia, and then in Chester County, and graduated from high school in 1968 in Westchester, PA. She then got a degree in art education and taught at Quaker schools in Palestine, Jamaica, and Mexico before moving to Northampton, where she lived for 29 years. During her time in Northampton, her major accomplishment was her years spent producing the Lesbian Calendar, a publication that promoted lesbian-run events and businesses in the area. She also wrote the grant for the shelter that became Safe Passage, an organization supporting victims of domestic abuse, which was called Necessities\/Necesidades at the time. In 2006, the Lesbian Calendar ceased publication and she moved to Asheville, North Carolina, where she lives to this day with her pet Corgi Jack Russell, Lucy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abstract:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this interview, Kimmell reflects upon her experiences living in Northampton and running the Lesbian Calendar for the duration of its existence. Kimmell also shares stories of her childhood in Pennsylvania, her time teaching abroad, and her current life in Asheville, North Carolina. In addition to this, Kimmell shares her feelings surrounding her own identity as an \u201cold girl\u201d and a butch lesbian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interviewer:<br>Sarah Swihart is a member of Smith College class of 2021.
