Julia Garnett is a dedicated advocate for the freedom to read. In her home state of Tennessee, she helped to defend challenged books by speaking out at local school board meetings. She has also worked with the National Coalition Against Censorship as a Student Advocates for Speech leader to educate her peers on the importance of speaking out against censorship. Julia was this year’s youth honorary chair of national Banned Books Week. She is also a White House honoree, GLAAD 20 under 20 honoree, and has worked with The Trevor Project.
