Delicious and delectable were understatements when it came to describing the annual Staff Council Cookie Contest, held in the Julia McWilliams Child ‘34 Campus Center on December 4. Some 150 staff attended the event, which featured 25 cookie entries (a record number!) ranging from classic chocolate chip to cranberry pumpkin cheesecake bars.
A panel of three judges—Chief of Public Safety Jimi Nealy Jr., Provost and Dean of the Faculty Daphne Lamothe, and Dining Services chef Julian Martineau—evaluated the offerings to name one winning recipe. Attendees submitted ballots to choose the other.
The winners, who will have their cookies featured at the upcoming Soup and Spuds event on January 22, were:
Judges’ Choice: Allison Racicot with Oreo Truffle
People’s Choice: Zach Julius with Ginger Sandwich Cookie with Eggnog Cream Filling
Organized by the Staff Council’s Activities Committee, the event involved the contributions of a dozen council volunteers. “It was so well attended, amazing on all levels – right down to the ingredient cards and ballot boxes,” noted Staff Council Co-chairs Andrea Fernandes and Caroline Bertrand.
As one attendee later observed, “Even after my stomach hurt from eating so much, I still had to have one more of the ginger sandwich cookies!”
