Cathy Kearney works in the Office of Alumnae Relations and Development, as the Assistant
Director of Milestone Reunions. She works with the 25th and 35th reunion cycles of Smithies,
partnering with the class volunteers to increase engagement, build connections with their
classmates, and align their philanthropic goals with the mission of the college. Cathy started at
Smith in 2019 in the Dining Department as the Campus Catering Manager, building
relationships with staff, faculty and Smithie students, helping to plan and cater events all over
campus. In her role now with Milestone Reunions (joined in 2023), she continues to foster and
nurture relationships with Smithies, but focusing on Alum. When she is not working for Smith,
she is most likely nurturing her two children under 3 (youngest born in 2023) with her husband,
Sean, watching them slowly figure out this world. Another place you will find her is walking in
her neighborhood or going on hikes with their Redbone Hound, Duke.
The Staff Council Activities Committee, co-chaired by Cathy and Andrea Fernandes, plans the
many fun events hosted by Staff Council. Some of the events include the Cookie Contest,
Soups & Spuds, and Cider & Donuts! Cathy has been part of this committee for 2 years and will
be on till she rotates off Staff Council next year.
Cathy enjoys making new friends across campus and hearing about the unique experiences of
staff in other departments. She values the meaningful relationships she has built during her time
on Staff Council and finds the insights gained from colleagues in different areas both
eye-opening and enlightening.
