{"id":2,"date":"2019-01-30T14:46:57","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T14:46:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/videotechnews\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2020-06-29T13:36:06","modified_gmt":"2020-06-29T17:36:06","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/videotechnews\/","title":{"rendered":"The ever changing world of technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The purpose of this blog is to compile and share news, events and other video, film &amp; media stories.\u00a0 There will be sections on Smith College technology, another will highlight work created by faculty, students and staff.\u00a0 I hope you will find some of these of interest and maybe find some inspiration to create your own media stories.<\/p>\n<p>Much has changed in the world of video over the past 10 to 15 years.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve gone from analog video to digital video,\u00a0 from Standard Definition to High Definition and then came 2K, 4K and even 8K.\u00a0 \u00a0I bought the first High Definition camcorder for the college in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Technology is changing at very rapid pace.\u00a0 \u00a0I tell people\u00a0 that whatever software or hardware you are using today already has a replacement being created and that replacement is also being engineered for replacement.<\/p>\n<p>The iphone came out in 2007.\u00a0 \u00a0When the iPhone came out we didn&#8217;t really understand or foresee all the implications and new ways to use this new technology.<\/p>\n<p>On the subject of iPhones here is an interesting article about a feature film shot on an iPhone by Steven Soderbergh.\u00a0 This is not the first film shot with an iPhone.\u00a0 Today you can find classes on shooting with an iPhone at major film Universities like UCLA.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/movies\/la-ca-mn-steven-soderbergh-high-flying-bird-20190131-story.html\">https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/movies\/la-ca-mn-steven-soderbergh-high-flying-bird-20190131-story.html \u00a0<\/a>When the iPhone came out did anyone think that feature films would be shot with an iPhone?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>AV-over-IP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve been hearing about\u00a0 AV-over-IP for several years now.\u00a0 The benefits are obvious but&#8230;\u00a0 Nearly everyone out there is misleading you about AV-over-IP. It\u2019s not easy, it\u2019s not lossless compression and it\u2019s not going to happen overnight. But, it IS the future of AV signal distribution. There is no standard that everyone has adopted for sending AV signals (video, audio, control and power) over the network \u2013 there are multiple ways of doing it and none of the different options are interoperable.
